This is a tribute to all those that have made it to the top of the 13.8 kms, 8.1 % gradient of the
Alpe d'Huez. Or maybe you just love the spectacle of this unique stage when it is included in the Tour? Maybe you ski down it in the snow? Remember the madness in 2004 when they sent the riders up one at a time with Lance coming through the frenzy to win.

Have you ridden it yourself and had a celebration drink in one of the bars? Cheers ! Did you do it in one hour or two? You know how far you are from the pros when you realise Marco did it in 36 mins and 40 secs. They say that the Tour is won and lost in the mountains ! Many cycling heroes have taken this stage win : Fausto in '52, Bernard in '86, Marco in '95 and '97, Lance in 2001 and 2004.We love the 21 hairpin bends now named after past stage winners.

Always a great atmosphere when it is features in Le Tour. In 2004 the number of spectators lining the roads they say reached over 1 million.
