Amy Bolger
I regard Amy as the world’s leading photographer of the messenger culture and community.
Amy has worked as a messenger for several New York messenger companies and is a keen participant in Alleycat races in the city.
She rides to win and likes to beat the guys. In her own words “It’s about building a community from the streets and promoting cycling…..it is my passion to capture these warriors of the street”
She has been honoured for her tireless work within the New York Messenger Community and for her contributions to the messenger community worldwide. If you don’t have the book New York Alleycats then get it.
We can’t thank her enough for the help she has given us with this Urban Hunter site.
Many of the photos you see on the opening page (they change each time you enter) are from Amy. Respect. www.amybolger.com Credit for photography is also due to Travis Jutson and J. Geoffrey Badner. |

Bagaboo
For me Bagaboo make some of the best designed and well made messenger bags on the market.
They understand how the product needs to perform and how well it needs to be made. This is what Bagaboo is all about.
They are made in Budapest by a small team led by Tamas, an ex messenger, well known on the worldwide messenger scene. He started by making bags for his messenger friends. The first bag he made still hangs in his office. The bags are made in the old fashioned way. One person cuts the fabric, another person makes the bag. They are made by true craftsmen and women. They care about their product. Production is limited so sometimes you have to wait a little longer for your bag. They can only make a certain number of bags a day, they can’t double the production, cant go much faster. That’s just how the bags are made but that makes them more special. These bags are hand made using the best components and materials. These bags last you a long time. |
|
We are always selling out of Bagaboo bags so order in advance, don‘t leave it too late. Once you get one you will appreciate how special they are. Then you want another. We like the way the Bagaboo label is hidden just under the flap so you can only just see it. We like the fact that every Bagaboo bag that Tamas makes is ever so slightly different. Look closely and you will see Bagaboo bags on the backs of the best messengers. Urban Hunter is the first ever retailer in the UK for Bagaboo. We are working to bring and develop new Bagaboo designs to you each season.
If you would like to stock Bagaboo in your retail store we are the appointed distributor for the UK so please contact us. If you would like a Bagaboo bags for your company, club or special event then we can also help you. If you are thinking about this don’t leave it too late. Good things take time. |

Descente
With more than 70 years experience and a legacy of innovation Descente has clothed countless world class athletes and Olympic Champions. We can’t name names but some of the cycling pros insist on using Descente gear even though they are sponsored by other companies. That says it all.

Fabric Horse was founded by Carrie and is now located in China Town, Philadelphia. It is a vibrant two-people businesses, hand sewing utility belts, spats, bags, costumes and everything in between. Each piece they make is made from scratch by a single pair of hands. Products are constructed from scavenged, reused, recycled, or environmentally friendly fabrics.
Mary and Carrie are inspired by the streets they ride. They conduct FH business entirely by bicycle. FH will never outsource its labour overseas and FH products will never be for sale in a mall. That is there promise. Urban Hunter represent and distribute their products in the UK so if you are a non-mall retailer and would like to stock Fabric Horse then contact us.

Laek House
Cycle orientated wearable art. T-shirts are designed and hand printed by Ethan in his East Village studio. Selected designs feature ELVS Enhanced Light Visibility System. Once the print has focused light shined on it the image reflects at surprising intensity. But its great because it doesn’t look like a high-reflective garment. Perfect for the urban jungle
One Gear Clothing
Their mission statement:
“ONE Gear Clothing makes clothes for people who are as obsessed with their fixie or single-speed bike as we are. If you ride with a cluster-fuck of gears, cables, shifters and derailleurs you probably won't understand. But if your chain line is straight like ours, you KNOW the simplicity and connected feel of riding one gear. You know it's just more FUN to ride without gears. You wanna go fast? Then pedal fast! Brakes optional. We make clothing that you can wear on and off your bike, around town and out at the pub. No one should have to wear flourescent yellow spandex just because they ride a bike! All shirts are professionally printed. We don't slap these together in the garage. While that may be more cool and punk-rock, bottom line is YOU have to wear the shirt“.

Ortlieb
England in 1981. A fuzzy haired Hartmut Ortlieb is on a cycling trip from his home in Germany. It is raining again. He is not looking forward to another night camping out in the rain, his sleeping bag already wet. He watches a truck go by and notices the bright red tarp protecting the cargo from the elements. An idea is born. Retuning to Germany he makes a bike pack out of red tarp on his mothers sewing machine. He uses the pack on his bike. “Hey can I get one of those bags.
I can sell them in my shop”. Orders are placed. Family members are roped in to help with production. The rest is history.
You may recognise the Ortlieb product. It is not until you see one of the bags close up and start to use them that you recognise just how good they are. Once you have one you wonder how you got by without one, you almost look forward to the days when it is raining cats and dogs. Once you buy an Ortlieb bag it is a little like entry to a club.
There are lots of things we like about Ortlieb. We love the functionality. We love the fact that the founding principle is still maintained - just make great waterproof bags for people who spend time outside in the elements. 'Durability is a promise'. We love the fact that the bags are still hand made in Germany and production has not moved to China. To Hartmut “It is a matter of honour.”
It doesn’t have to be that way but it is a choice. We love the way Hartman still cares passionately about his product. We love his environmental policy. Respect to a now not so fuzzy
haired Hartmut.
Swrve
Swrve are based in LA California. They are a small company made up of Muriel and Matt and their small team. You are not going to see everyone wearing this stuff. Their reason for being is to make stylish urban cycling gear - those last 4 words are why we work with them They design gear that you don’t want to get changed out of when you get off the bike.
